Here at Executive Jeep®, we’re huge fans of the family of Jeep SUVs, whether it’s a used Jeep Cherokee or a brand new 2018 Jeep Compass. That’s why we’re excited to share some exciting news on upcoming Jeep models with all our Hartford, CT Jeep SUV lovers.
Recently, the automaker announced a five-year plan and it detailed production on some exciting new Jeep models. The plan covers everything from brand new models to the long-awaited Jeep pickup truck to hybrid models. Now, we have news of one such model that’s planned to arrive in 2020, the Jeep Renegade PHEV.
In addition to a plug-in hybrid Jeep Renegade model, a hybrid version of the Jeep Wrangler is in the works. Reports suggest that pre-production models of the Jeep Renegade PHEV will start next year at the Melfi plant in Italy.
What’s interesting about the introduction of the two models is how the technology works for each. Models like the Jeep Renegade and 2019 Jeep Cherokee ride on a front-wheel-drive architecture, while models like the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee utilize all-wheel drive.
For the front-wheel-drive models, they’ll use a rear-mounted electric motor which drives the rear wheels. Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive models use an e-motor mounted between the internal combustion engine and transmission, still allowing you to rock crawl and go off-road.
The plan also states that we’ll have eight PHEV Jeep models for sale by 2022, with the first models starting to roll out sometime in 2020.
While all this news means that you can’t drive around the Branford, CT area in a plug-in hybrid Jeep SUV just yet, you won’t have to wait very long.
