After the last round of cold and snow, Connecticut drivers are already settled in to winter. But just because we’ve already made it through some difficult weather doesn’t mean we can’t do our best to make the rest of the season as painless as possible.

One of the best ways to keep our cars running all winter is also one of the easiest – some simple car battery maintenance. Our North Haven, CT Jeep® service center can help, and a little bit of preventative maintenance can go a long way toward avoiding an unpleasant morning with a car that won’t start.

While all car batteries eventually die, there are some simple things you can do to extend that life. The first is to do a check-up on the charge.

A healthy battery should have a voltage around 12.5 volts, but many are running on less. If your voltage is low and the battery won’t hold a charge, often it’s an issue with the fluids, which can be easily fixed.

If your fully charged battery is still having problems, there are some other things to check for. One of the biggest reasons a fully charged battery could have issues is simply that it needs to be cleaned. Sulfuric acid build-up, road dirt, and more can prevent the proper connections. A cleaning and check of the clamps and wiring often solve the issue.

If you have some hesitations about messing with your battery, we’ve got you covered! Our service center technicians can take care of it for you and make sure you’re in good shape whether you’re driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee or a Jeep Patriot. New Haven, Branford, and other local drivers can save themselves a lot of trouble this winter with a quick trip to Executive Jeep for some battery maintenance.
